Enabling Youtube while blocking streaming media using DNS

A comment support request is how to configure Rawstream Cloud DNS to allow access to Youtube while blocking the rest of the streaming media sites.

Adding youtube.com to the Allow List is not enough. YouTube hosts videos and resources across a number of domains.

Here is how to block streaming media sites while allowing access to Youtube.

1. Block Streaming Media

Log in to the Rawstream Admin dashboard then click Settings > Networks and choose the network you want to configure. Set Sites to Filter to Allow all sites except those below, then check the Streaming Media category. Check any other categories that you would like to block.

Remember to set Action to Block. Optionally, set an HTML block message to be shown to users who attempt to access a blocked page.

2. Allow Youtube

Click the Allow tab, and add the following domains:

youtube.com
googleusercontent.com
googleapis.com
youtube.googleapis.com
Click Save Settings. Done!

Rawstream supports enforcing Google Safe Search, so now would be a good time to look into the option.
